System scope: This report is the design and verification plan for the CoolTeck monitoring platform, CoolTeck gateways and the CoolTeck logging devices recorded in the approved device register.

WHO Testing creates an X/Y measurement grid at 5–10 m spacing with a vertical array at every station. All three coverage levels use wall-mounted sensors. Four-wall coverage is the default; three-wall coverage can be selected when justified. Pharmaceutical Level normally uses two horizontal positions and two elevations per wall: 4 sensors per wall, giving 12 sensors for three walls or 16 for four walls. Minimal Coverage normally uses one horizontal position and two elevations per wall: 2 sensors per wall, giving 6 sensors for three walls or 8 for four walls. Extra wall positions are added when dimensions exceed the applicable 20 m side-length threshold. Operational risk points relocate baseline sensors toward entered evaporator or known-excursion zones and toward fixed wall positions beside or above doors, without increasing the preset count.

Room relationship rule: two rooms qualify as beside each other only when both are assigned to the same non-blank adjacent bank ID and consistent direction. X means Side C joins Side A; Y means Side D joins Side B. Their bank positions define sequence and entered gaps document separation. Standalone rooms and different banks do not share a redundant gateway. Main gateway positions are calculated in each room’s REF O coordinate system. Shared redundant gateway marks are provisional boundary/roof-zone positions until a site survey fixes the common-wall geometry. A validated RF range affects both placement grouping and main gateway quantity.

WHO-Informed Methodology and Boundaries

Design concepts applied: a documented site survey; risk-based point selection; horizontal grid coverage; multiple vertical levels; attention to shelving, stored product, doors, cooling outlets, airflow, loading and identified hot/cold spots; unique sensor IDs; and marked-up coordinate figures.
WHO conceptHow this estimator applies itRequired project action
Site surveyDimensions, area type and counts of thermal-risk features are captured.Enter exact rack, door, evaporator, thermostat and existing monitor coordinates in the approved protocol/drawing.
Horizontal distributionMapping mode uses a rectangular grid with selected maximum spacing between 5 and 10 m.Adjust for alcoves, obstructions, actual product positions and airflow; very large facilities require a justified risk-based protocol.
Vertical distributionWHO adaptive mode uses high, middle and low arrays; taller rooms receive multiple middle levels. Alternative CoolTeck or custom elevations remain available.Match elevations to the occupied storage envelope and full working rack height.
Study conditionsEach room records empty, loaded, or both conditions and a recommended duration based on area type.Approve the mapping protocol, document door openings and outages, and operate all duplicate refrigeration units during the study.
Routine monitoringPermanent points are a planning estimate only.Relocate/finalize routine sensors after analysis identifies representative hot and cold spots.
Important: This is a WHO-informed engineering estimator, not proof of WHO compliance and not a completed qualification report. WHO does not prescribe one universal sensors-per-volume formula. The approved protocol, calibrated logging equipment, executed study data, deviations, analysis, peer review and final recommendations remain project responsibilities.

Door-Sensor Placement Rule

No sensor is placed on a door. Door-risk points (DR-series) and any wall point moved for door clearance (-CLR) are calculated on fixed structure beside or above the opening. Installation on the door leaf, within the opening, on the frame or on moving hardware is prohibited.

The planner uses an assumed door position and envelope to keep every calculated sensor clear of the opening. Door-related coordinates are therefore planning coordinates: verify the actual jambs, opening height, swing or sliding path, nearby heaters and airflow during the site survey, then transfer the marked point to the fixed insulated wall or suitable fixed bracket.

WHO Testing
WHO-informed dense wall coverage at 5–10 m horizontal spacing with adaptive vertical levels. Sensors remain on the selected room walls.
Qualification / measurement511313303.2 m
Pharmaceutical Level
Selectable 3- or 4-wall CoolTeck coverage with at least two horizontal positions per wall and sensors at 3 m and 6 m: normally 4 sensors per wall. Additional positions are added when a wall exceeds 20 m.
Permanent operations1644125 m
Minimal Coverage
Selectable 3- or 4-wall CoolTeck coverage with one horizontal position per typical wall and sensors at 3 m and 6 m: normally 2 sensors per wall. Additional positions are added when a wall exceeds 20 m.
Permanent operations822112.4 m
Use distinction: WHO Testing is the temporary qualification/mapping density. Pharmaceutical Level and Minimal Coverage are reduced permanent-operational layouts and must be finalized from the completed mapping study, confirmed hot/cold spots and approved risk assessment.

Room Adjacency and Site-Level Gateway Plan

Definition used by this tool: rooms are considered beside each other only when their Room arrangement is set to Beside other rooms, they have the same non-blank Adjacent bank ID, one consistent direction and unique bank positions. Bank position sets sequence; gap records physical separation. X direction means Side C of one room joins Side A of the next. Y direction means Side D joins Side B. A standalone room is never assumed adjacent and cannot share a redundant gateway.

Redundancy quantity: 0 shared gateway(s) between declared adjacent room pairs plus 1 dedicated gateway(s), giving 1 redundant and 14 total wireless gateways including 13 main.
Installation boundary: main gateway coordinates are exact within each room’s REF O coordinate system and are shown in the room routing figures. A shared redundant gateway has no defensible exact site coordinate until the common wall, roof access, insulation/metal panels, power/backhaul, fire separations and actual room orientation are surveyed. Mount provisionally near the pair’s common boundary/roof zone, then accept only after closed-door RF testing demonstrates coverage to the assigned sensors in both rooms.

Drawing basis: origin X0/Y0 is the inside front-left corner; X follows room length, Y follows room width and Z is height above finished floor. The red REF O marker identifies X0/Y0 in plan and X0/Y0/Z0 in 3D. CoolTeck main-gateway coordinates are calculated on the roof/ceiling plane at Z 9.5 m. Gateway X/Y uses the assigned-device bounding-box centre, and the entered validated RF range can increase gateway quantity. CoolTeck wireless architecture: logging-device positions and their main-gateway associations are shown above. The longest planned 3D device-to-main-gateway link is 12.3 m. Enter a closed-door validated RF range before treating the drawing as a coverage check. Shared redundant gateways are site-level devices shown in the adjacency plan.
Perform closed-door RF/RSSI and packet-reception testing with representative stock loading, closed insulated doors and refrigeration equipment operating. The entered range is a design input, not a CoolTeck guarantee. Finalize boundary/roof-zone redundant gateway coordinates from a site survey and approve them only when both intended rooms pass the RF test.

Engineering rule: Selectable 3- or 4-wall CoolTeck coverage with at least two horizontal positions per wall and sensors at 3 m and 6 m: normally 4 sensors per wall. Additional positions are added when a wall exceeds 20 m.

Redundancy quantity: 0 shared gateway(s) between declared adjacent room pairs plus 1 dedicated gateway(s), giving 1 redundant and 5 total wireless gateways including 4 main.

Redundancy quantity: 0 shared gateway(s) between declared adjacent room pairs plus 1 dedicated gateway(s), giving 1 redundant and 3 total wireless gateways including 2 main.

Execution, Validation and Commissioning

  1. Approve the CoolTeck mapping protocol and site drawing before deployment; define objectives, acceptance criteria, load condition, sampling interval and deviations process.
  2. Use identified CoolTeck logging devices with valid traceable calibration appropriate to the required range; synchronize device IDs, start times and sampling intervals in the CoolTeck platform. WHO describes intervals between 1 and 15 minutes.
  3. Run each room for its justified period: cold/freezer rooms are typically 24–72 hours or longer; warehouses/ambient storage are typically at least seven consecutive days including a weekend.
  4. Record door openings, power failures, defrost cycles, loading activity and operation of duplicate refrigeration units.
  5. Analyse each device’s minimum, maximum, mean, excursions and horizontal/vertical patterns; identify true hot and cold spots and any no-storage zones.
  6. Finalize routine-monitor positions from the mapping results, then complete the architecture-specific installation and communication checks under representative product loading.
  7. Issue approved as-built coordinates, gateway assignments, CoolTeck platform alarm settings, device calibration records, deviations/CAPA and review signatures.
